A series of 5 performances, executed in public space. Part of a project by De Nieuwe Vide, where this area became a temporary busstop. Every performance I added 1 object and 1 performer -all dressed in corporate clothes-, exploring different aspects of waiting.
Commissioned by De Nieuwe Vide, Haarlem / Lloyd Hotel, Amsterdam
1#; TABLE [February 1st, 2009]
A performer balances a table and chair with her legs and knees, whilst eating chewing gum and sticking it on the table, chair and carpet. An act of boredom becomes a concentrated and physical challenge.
2#; CHAIR [April 11th, 2009]
A performer sits in a chair, where an engine mechanically takes over the nervous tapping of waiting fingers, giving the waiting person time to think and enjoy the moment.
4#; BOOKSHELF [May 10th, 2009]
The body of the performer keeps the bookshelf from falling, by leaning against it. The performer changes into different poses of waiting -like a model taking on the runway-, every 10 seconds, using the sound of the crankshaft/ engine of the 2nd performance; # chair (2009).
5#; COFFEE [July 4th, 2009]
A performer tries to make coffee with a small espresso-machine and a malfunctioning aggregate, inviting people to help and participate in the process of waiting, having a talk, etc.
