THE SWEATSHOP [2011]
Documentation Performance
Duration: 2 evenings
Arti et Amicitiae, Forum of live Art Amsterdam (FLAM), Amsterdam
Supported by: AFK
7 Women working in a sweatshop, manufacturing the suit of She-Man [She-Man is a performative alter-ego, a superheroin that was created in 2010].
A superheroin to research the concept of 'emergency' in the realm of art, to literally give a body to the emergency of the artist.
During the two nights of performing the women started working individually on their own task. As the suit started coming together they were forced to divide the work more and more as a team, waiting for
each other, adjusting to each others rhythm. A green light flashed on the wall during the performance, working as a catalyst to produce a work rhythm, together with the sounds of the machines.
