EVA builds a lighthouse 2.0, 2022 20 days residency & performance Strandlab, Almere
During a building period of 10 days artist Eva Schippers builded a 6,5 meter lighthouse at Strandlab Almere with donated and found materials. Then she was open for 10 days and visitors could get a tour and/or a talk with the artist about [waiting for an] emergency. 53 people came by for a talk and this resulted in drawings, audio recordings and other documentation. Since 2020 Schippers builds her installations with donated and found materials: This started with the build of a spaceship in the Vondelbunker in Amsterdam, and has become an important part of her practise.
Thanks everyone for donating and making the ligthouse happen!

EVA builds a lighthouse, 2022 Installation/performance Duration: 3 hours Part of: project 'Kunst Corso' Culturele Stelling AmsterdamEva Schippers built the command center of a lighthouse in 10 days for the cultural Stelling Amsterdam [CSA], using found and donated material. The lighthouse was part of a Kunst Corso, driving through the city of Amsterdam together with 12 other artists/initiatives to draw attention to getrification and cultural poverty of Amsterdam. An archaic object of emergency architecture, stationary and disused, is set in motion during the Korso. A city and a world where there seems to be no place for culture anymore, while it is precisely art that moves people, takes them along, shows a different side, encourages thinking, gives our lives meaning. A rogue beacon. During the tour, Eva Schippers invited Semna van Ooy [part of Culturele Stelling Amsterdam] and Tara Karpinsky [part of Pink Pont Express] to get in and have a conversation, overlooking the city. In the lighthouse, collected from cupboards, construction waste, household items, second-hand lamps and bathroom mirrors, the artist and her guests keep the lamp moving manually during the conversation. Let's keep moving!
